CONFERENCE DETAILS

Famous British actor Emma Watson once said, "It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals." The need to change the common stereotypical perception has been in discussion since almost a century, but media and social media narrate tales of inequality and injustice in every sphere and circle of life. Observing the existing disparity Gloria Steinem, American journalist and activist pointed out, "Women are not going to be equal outside the home until men are equal in it." Starting from familial warmth of home and hearth, to the air-conditioned scientific laboratories and corridors of political power, gender bias has consistently persisted and has mutated to create newer disparities. Bell Hooks, in her famous book Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center stated, "Unfortunately it is often easier to ignore, dismiss, reject, and even hurt one another rather than engage in constructive confrontation." But we intend to provide platform for constructive confrontation that will bring in a change.

The first version of this international conference ICOGECAO 2019 was held on 19th and 20th December 2019 in SVNIT. It was conceived with a view to challenge gender stereotypes because for centuries gender has defined shaped and limited the role of individual in the society. As a TEQIP-III sponsored event, it was organised to provide a common platform for people of all ages, genders, professions and disciplines to assemble and discuss their views and findings on the topic of gender disparity. Once again, we bring 2nd version of conference on Gender Equity: Challenges and Opportunities to benefit students, teachers, researchers and professionals from varied fields of knowledge to interact, participate and discuss issues related to gender equity.

We heard some thought provoking deliberations in our previous conference and we strive again to provide a platform for debates and discussions, to listen to stories of   "heroes and she-roes" as we believe voices of all the genders need to be heard and heeded not overlooked and ignored. We believe that freedom in true sense will come when all genders will be emancipated from all forms of oppression. Taking a step towards that freedom, let's use this opportunity to exercise freedom of expression. Hence, we invite papers on any and every aspect of gender issue as we wish to break the silence.

We also invite papers on the often overlooked and voluntarily or involuntarily ignored third gender. We wish to provide an open forum to all who wish to question and challenge patriarchy. This conference is initiated to bring many minds together as it aims to draw a plethora of thinkers, researchers, activists and professionals who wish to freely and openly share their thoughts and ideas on gender perception in the society.

Due to the current circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will be held virtually on suitable platform.

COVID-19 has proven to be a global emergency that has fractured the social structure and health-care systems to an extent that its impact is too difficult to be encompassed right now. India on 24th March 2020 declared a nation-wide lock-down to curtail the spread of corona virus. This unplanned and sudden lock-down impacted different sections of women in such a way that they became vulnerable and weak. Within this context, this presentation intends to explore the catastrophic impact of COVID-19 on Indian women in general and sex workers and migrant women in particular. It also highlights upon the clinical impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women who faced the brunt of dehumanized care despite several guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW).

CALL FOR PAPERS

This conference is a rare interdisciplinary platform for people of all ages, genders, professions and nationalities, as it invites discourse not just by academicians, researchers, scholars, writers but also doctors, administrators, lawyers, scientists, students, artists, in-short professionals and thinkers from any field who feel passionate about gender equity.
It aims to discuss not just the issues in our respective pasts like gender-oriented myths, patriarchal traditions and values, historical perspective on patriarchy, male hegemony in terms of resources, finance and decision making; but also the present and future issues like acceptance and equal treatment of woman at workplace, need for behavioural changes, acceptance of LGBT at workplace, sensitization of children and adults towards gender equity, empowerment of the second and the third gender, and most importantly recognising merit regardless of gender. It promises to be an open platform to voice, share, discuss, develop, exchange, revise one’s opinion on gender issues, as we need to assess the challenges and map the opportunities beyond the obvious boundaries of social acceptance.
For this we invite panels and papers to define, interrogate and analyse equity in context of gender. The conference will discuss themes as broad as gender equity in terms of past/present/future; home/workplace; theory/praxis; written/oral discourse.
Participation is also invited for panel session on psychological aspects of empowerment and leadership, victimization, exclusion and social problems.
